Saleh Muslim: Syrian Kurdish Leader Dies

Saleh Muslim, a prominent Syrian Kurdish leader, passed away on Wednesday in Iraqi Kurdistan after a long illness. He was the former co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
For years, Saleh Muslim served as the co-chair of the PYD, the largest Kurdish political organization in Syria. The party played a crucial role in establishing the autonomous administration in northeastern Syria, known as Rojava.
His political activity was closely linked to the struggle of Syrian Kurds for recognition and autonomy. He actively participated in the processes leading to the creation of the autonomous administration and the Kurdish political and military structures.
Muslim passed away in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. His body is expected to be transferred to Syria on Thursday for the funeral.
The PYD paid tribute to Saleh Muslim, describing him as a man who dedicated his life to the struggle of his people.
Saleh Muslim was born in 1951 in Kobani, a city that became a symbol of Kurdish resistance against the Islamic State.
