Moscow is calling for the 'immediate release' of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, according to statements by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Zakharova stated that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation surrounding the trial in the United States of the legitimately elected President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife. She advocated for their immediate release from detention.

In another statement, Zakharova described as an 'example of misinformation' reports claiming that Russia and the United States had held talks in Geneva regarding a new nuclear weapons agreement.

She also commented on the European Union's plans to reduce the staff of the Russian Permanent Representation to the EU, calling any claim that the EU has a place at the negotiating table for the crisis in Ukraine as 'baseless'.
