Russia Condemns EU Sanctions as Illegitimate

Russia has condemned the new sanctions imposed by the European Union, arguing that they lack legitimacy from the UN. According to Russian news agencies, the delegation of the Russian Federation to the EU stated that the measures are meaningless without a decision by the UN Security Council.
The statement mentions that only sanctions imposed based on a UN Security Council resolution are legitimate. Russia accuses the EU of economic blackmail and extraterritorial application of sanctions, restricting Russian exports to countries that cooperate with it.
The EU adopted the 20th package of sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, after Slovakia and Hungary lifted their objections following the resumption of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Brussels sought to impose the sanctions on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
