Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned of potential disruptions in global energy markets due to the escalating crisis in the Middle East. The statements were made at a meeting on March 9, 2026.

Putin emphasized the risk of disrupting oil production linked to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while similar pressure is building in the natural gas market.

Russia, according to him, will continue to supply oil and natural gas to "reliable partners," including Asian countries and European countries such as Slovakia and Hungary.

Putin reminded that the European Union is planning new restrictions on imports of Russian hydrocarbons, and Moscow is considering cutting off supplies to the EU.
