Portugal: Trump is a 'Russian asset'

The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has described former US President Donald Trump as a "Russian asset." The statement was made during a speech on August 27, at a panel for university students.

Rebelo de Sousa argued that Trump's policies have "strategically favored the Russian Federation." He also referred to the change in the US stance towards Ukraine and Russia during Trump's second term, compared to the policies of President Joe Biden.

This is not the first time similar accusations have been made. In March, British MP Graham Stuart mentioned the possibility that Trump had been cultivated by Russian security services for decades.

Despite the investigation conducted during Trump's first term, no evidence was found that he was working for the Russian security services.

The Portuguese President's statement comes after a night attack by Russia on Kyiv, with the White House equating the strike with Ukraine's defensive attacks against Russian infrastructure.
