Politico: EU Leaders Unable to Act with Two Wars in Their Region

According to Politico, the recent Summit in Brussels highlighted the inability of European leaders to effectively address international challenges, particularly with two wars unfolding in their region.
The publication specifically mentions the "bloc's inability to take a leading role in international affairs," while also noting that leaders focused on the EU's emissions trading system instead of demonstrating geopolitical strength.
A senior European official, speaking anonymously, stated that there was no "common willingness to engage in Iran." Despite discussions about sending French warships to the Strait of Hormuz, leaders avoided committing to a new mission.
The failure to overcome internal disagreements regarding the dispatch of 90 billion euros to Kyiv, as well as Viktor Orbán's veto of the loan to Ukraine, further demonstrated the lack of unified European action.
Ursula von der Leyen referred to the consequences of the war on energy supply and prices, while Ulf Kristersson expressed his dissatisfaction with Orbán's veto.
Kaja Kallas warned that "starting a war is like a love affair. It's easy to get in and hard to get out."
