Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba Resigns

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has decided to resign in order to avoid a split in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, according to public broadcaster NHK.

The ruling coalition, led by the Liberal Democratic Party, lost its majority in the upper house in elections held in July.
