Ukraine Accuses Russia of Nuclear Site Attacks

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has accused Russia of attacks endangering the safety of its nuclear facilities. Kyiv accuses Moscow of "deliberate attacks against non-military energy infrastructure that directly affect the safe operation of nuclear facilities."
In a statement, the ministry spoke of "targeted strikes" on substations vital for supplying electricity to nuclear facilities. It described the attacks as "nuclear terrorism" and a "serious violation of international humanitarian law."
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a warning on Thursday regarding damage to substations vital for nuclear safety in Ukraine. The IAEA reported strikes near two nuclear power plants in the Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyi regions, which caused power outages. A third station in Rivne was forced to reduce power to two reactors.
Moscow and Kyiv frequently accuse each other of attacks that endanger the safety of nuclear power plants, including the Zaporizhzhia plant, which has been under Russian occupation since March 2022.
