The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has accused Russian forces of carrying out strikes on substations vital for supplying electricity to nuclear facilities. According to the ministry, these attacks bear the characteristics of nuclear terrorism and constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a statement raising the alarm about military operations that have damaged substations critical for nuclear safety in Ukraine. The IAEA reported strikes near two nuclear power plants in the Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyi regions, which resulted in the interruption of their power supply. Additionally, a third nuclear power plant in Rivne was forced to reduce power in two of its four reactors.

Moscow and Kyiv frequently accuse each other of actions that endanger the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, particularly the one in Zaporizhzhia, which was occupied by Russian forces in March 2022.
