Ukraine Claims Responsibility for Attacks on Russian Railway Network

Ukraine's military intelligence agency (GUR) has claimed responsibility for two sabotage operations on the Russian railway network over the weekend, which resulted in the deaths of three people.
According to an AFP source, the GUR, in cooperation with Ukrainian military units, carried out an attack in the Oryol region on Saturday and another in the Leningrad region on Sunday.
The governor of Leningrad, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that two trains had derailed in different areas. The GUR admitted responsibility for the incident near St. Petersburg, where a freight train with 15 empty tank cars derailed. Russian media published images of the derailed wagons.
In the same region, a train driver was killed in a train derailment near the Semrino station. Additionally, an explosion on a railway line in the Oryol region resulted in the deaths of three members of the Russian National Guard.
The GUR stated that the operations aimed to disrupt the connection between Oryol and Kursk. Kyiv claims that Russia uses the railway network to transport troops and fuel.
Since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, there have been several sabotage incidents on the Russian railway network.
