Hungary-Ukraine: Orbán Halts Freight Transit
Share on:

Hungary is escalating tensions with Ukraine as Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the cessation of freight transit to Ukraine. This decision is a retaliation concerning the oil flow through the Druzhba pipeline.

Orbán stated that Hungary will halt the transit of goods important to Ukraine until Ukraine approves oil deliveries. He also accused Kyiv of blackmail and emphasized that Hungary will use all available means to resume the oil flow.

"We have stopped... diesel exports to Ukraine, we are still continuing energy exports, and we will stop the transit of goods through Hungary that are important to Ukraine... until we achieve Ukraine's approval for oil deliveries," Viktor Orbán stated.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian government accused Hungary of holding a group of Ukrainian bankers "hostage" while they were transporting "35 million euros and 9 kilograms of gold" through Hungary.
