The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has warned against any "reinterpretation" of the UN resolution concerning Iran's nuclear program, as European countries prepare to reinstate sanctions against Tehran.

SCO member states stated in a joint statement that "any attempt to misinterpret or arbitrarily reinterpret this resolution would undermine the authority of the Security Council" of the UN.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on platform X that Iran, China, and Russia signed a joint letter to the United Nations denouncing the European effort to reinstate sanctions as "legally unfounded and politically destructive."

France, Britain, and Germany, citing a clause included in the 2015 international agreement (the snapback mechanism), have given Iran a 30-day deadline to find a diplomatic solution to the issue, threatening to reimpose UN-approved sanctions.

On the sidelines of the SCO summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, and stated that he believes it would be useful for Tehran to continue nuclear negotiations. He added that Ankara will continue to support Iran on this issue.

According to the Turkish presidency, Erdoğan also said that cooperation between the two neighboring countries, particularly in the energy sector, would be beneficial for both sides.
