UN: Task Force Formed for Crisis Impact in the Strait of Hormuz

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has established a Task Force to address the impact of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. The Task Force's primary mission is to develop and submit technical mechanisms specifically designed to meet humanitarian needs in the region.

According to the UN, disruptions to maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz may trigger ripple effects that will affect humanitarian needs and agricultural production. The Task Force will operate under the leadership of Jorge Moreira da Silva.

The Task Force also includes representatives from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Maritime Organization, and the International Chamber of Commerce.

The mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz aims to facilitate fertilizer trade and will be implemented in close consultation with the Member States concerned.

The Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Jean Arnault, will lead political consultations with the Member States concerned.
