UN Security Council to Discuss Iran's Nuclear Program

Members of the United Nations Security Council will hold closed-door consultations today regarding Iran.
The meeting is at the request of France and the United Kingdom, after the two countries, along with Germany, circulated a letter informing the Council that they consider Iran to be in 'substantial non-compliance' with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding its nuclear program, thus activating the mechanism to restore UN sanctions against the country.
Conversely, China and Russia are expected to denounce the action as an 'unjustified escalation' during the closed-door consultations, citing the draft resolution they submitted to allow time for diplomacy.
The draft resolution prepared by Russia and China does not require any concessions from Iran.
