Trump Considers Seizing Kharg Island to Pressure Iran

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering seizing or blockading Iran's Kharg Island, according to Axios. The aim is to pressure Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Sources indicate that Trump wants to lift the blockade of the Strait, which is crucial for maritime oil and gas transport.

An operation to seize Kharg, located approximately 30 kilometers off the coast of Iran and from which 90% of Iranian oil is exported, would bring U.S. troops more directly into the line of fire.

Such an operation could be undertaken after the U.S. military further restricts Iran's military capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz.

The operation, if approved, would require more troops. Three units of U.S. Marines are already en route to the region.
