Bolsonaro Returns to Prison After Hospital Discharge

Jair Bolsonaro has been discharged from a hospital in Brasilia and returned to prison to serve his sentence.

His hospitalization was court-approved for surgeries to treat an inguinal hernia and persistent hiccups. Bolsonaro has been suffering from the consequences of an attack he suffered in 2018.

According to reports, he was admitted to DF Star Hospital on December 24 and underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia on Christmas Day. He has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for orchestrating an attempted coup after his defeat in the 2022 elections.

His lawyers had requested house arrest for health reasons, but the request was rejected.

Upon discharge, he was transferred back to the Federal Police Directorate in Brasilia.
