Nicolás Maduro: From Bus Driver to President of Venezuela

Nicolás Maduro has been the president of Venezuela since 2013, succeeding Hugo Chávez. He started as a bus driver and trade unionist before becoming a minister and vice president.

His administration has been marked by economic collapse, with hyperinflation and shortages. Social discontent was met with repression and accusations of fraud in the 2018 and 2024 elections.

More than 8 million people have left Venezuela during his tenure. His government has clashed with the USA, which does not recognize his legitimacy and accuses him of drug trafficking and repression.
