Bolsonaro to be Discharged and Return to Prison

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is expected to be discharged from the clinic where he is hospitalized and return to prison to serve his 27-year sentence for the attempted coup.

Bolsonaro was admitted to the private DF Star clinic on December 24 and underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia. Surgeon Claudio Birolini stated that the postoperative course is good and he is expected to be discharged on Thursday.

The 70-year-old Bolsonaro has faced health problems since the 2018 attack. In September, the Supreme Court found him guilty of attempting a coup after his defeat in the 2022 elections.

Additionally, he underwent three surgeries to address persistent hiccups. His lawyers are requesting that he serve his sentence under house arrest due to his health condition and recent diagnosis of skin cancer.
