Mexico to Request El Mayo's Assets from the US

Mexico plans to request a portion of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada's assets from the United States, estimated at $15 billion and expected to be confiscated, to distribute the funds to the poorest Mexicans.
President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that if the funds are recovered by the US government, they will request a portion for the poorest citizens.
"El Mayo," co-founder of the Sinaloa cartel, pleaded guilty in the US in July 2024, avoiding trial. He is expected to receive a life sentence and asset forfeiture.
Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch noted that despite the arrest of "El Mayo" and Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, the Sinaloa cartel remains active with various leaders.
