Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will not attend the signing of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement on Saturday in Paraguay, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Lula's absence is due to the fact that the representation of Mercosur members at the ceremony was initially planned at the ministerial level.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa will travel to Brazil and Paraguay for the signing.

Santiago Peña (Paraguay) and Luis Lacalle Pou (Uruguay) will attend the signing, and Javier Milei (Argentina) may also be present.

Lula pushed for the signing of the agreement, which will create one of the world's largest free trade zones.
