Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has reportedly died. The news was reported by political advisor Abdullah Othman Anturahim in a post, ending years of speculation.

Anturahim confirmed Saif al-Islam's death on Facebook, following reports of clashes near Al-Hamada. The circumstances of the death remain unclear, according to the Libya Observer. Other reports link the incident to the 444th Brigade, which denies any involvement.

Anadolu reports that Saif al-Islam was allegedly killed in the city of Zintan. According to local media, four people attacked his residence after disabling the surveillance cameras. The Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the case.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi remained a polarizing figure, symbolizing for some the continuity of the state and for others the authoritarian rule.
