Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sparked discussion by choosing to wear a sweatshirt with the 'USSR' logo upon his arrival in Anchorage, ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska.

CNN analyzed Lavrov's appearance, noting that the casual attire was unusual for a senior diplomat. The sweatshirt with the 'CCCP' symbol (the Cyrillic letters for the Soviet Union) alludes to Russia's 'golden age' as a major power during the Cold War.

Vladimir Putin has stated that the collapse of the Soviet Union was 'the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century,' with the revival of Russian imperial grandeur being one of the main goals of his presidency.

Russian media presented Lavrov's choice as a response to pro-Ukrainian demonstrations in Anchorage. Olga Skabeeva, a state television presenter, commented positively on Lavrov's appearance.

CNN concluded that Lavrov's sweatshirt demonstrates Russia's confidence and its desire to project itself as a major power on the international stage.
