Cuban officials have begun talks with the US government, according to President Miguel Díaz-Canel. The talks are taking place amid a severe economic crisis in Cuba and increasing pressure from the US.

Díaz-Canel stated that the talks aim to find solutions through dialogue to bilateral differences. He also said that he led the talks for the Cuban side, along with former President Raúl Castro and other high-ranking officials.

Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the US is conducting high-level talks with Cuban representatives. The Cuban government initially denied official meetings but did not deny reports of informal discussions with Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro.

Trump has cut off Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba and threatened tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba.
