China Begins Live-Fire Drills Around Taiwan

China has commenced live-fire drills around Taiwan, simulating a blockade of the island's key ports. Taipei has condemned Beijing's "military intimidation."

Beijing claims Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory and has not ruled out military action. The drills follow a major arms sale to Taipei by the United States.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that attempts to stop unification are "doomed to fail." Journalists observed fighter jets and a military vessel near Pingtan.

Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration announced that over 100,000 air passengers will be affected by the drills.
