China Reacts to US Arms Sale to Taiwan

China has expressed its opposition to the US arms sale to Taiwan, calling on the United States to honor its leaders' commitments. Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated that the US should immediately cease its actions of arming Taiwan.
The US government has approved the sale of an arms package to Taiwan worth $11.1 billion. This is the second arms sale since Donald Trump returned to power.
Lai Ching-te mentioned plans to increase defense spending to over 3% of GDP in 2026 and to 5% by 2030, responding to related US requests. Washington had approved an initial arms sale to Taiwan in November, amounting to $330 million, for components and support for F-16, C-130, and Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF) aircraft.
