Caribbean: Regional Summit with Marco Rubio's Presence

Marco Rubio will participate in the summit of heads of state and government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Saint Kitts and Nevis. According to the State Department, Rubio will seek to strengthen cooperation with the United States, with an emphasis on developments in Venezuela.
Rubio is expected to address President Trump's priorities regarding combating illegal immigration and trafficking. U.S. armed forces have intensified operations in the region since September 2025, targeting speedboats allegedly carrying narcotics, although the legality of these operations is being questioned.
Relations with Venezuela are expected to be at the center of the summit, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. The Trump administration is promoting the normalization of relations with Caracas, while Cuba faces problems due to the U.S. embargo and the lack of oil from Venezuela.
The situation in Haiti, where gang violence is rampant, is also expected to be discussed. The U.S. has expressed its support for transitional Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and is trying to deploy an international force to combat the gangs.
