Historic Armenia-Azerbaijan Trade Deal

Azerbaijani fuel has entered Armenia, marking the first trade transaction after three decades of conflict. The Armenian Minister of Economy hailed the move as a historic step towards resolving the dispute.
A train carrying 1,300 tons of gasoline from Azerbaijan arrived in Armenia via Georgia, according to Minister Gevorg Papoyan. Papoyan stated that this is likely the first commercial transaction between the two countries since their independence in the early 1990s.
The two countries had previously clashed over control of Nagorno-Karabakh, a region that Baku regained in 2023. In March, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on a draft peace treaty, and in August, they signed a draft agreement under US auspices.
In October, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev lifted restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia, a move the Armenian government hailed as a confidence-building measure.
