Israel: Discussion on Turning Gaza into a 'Riviera'

Israeli far-right leaders discussed a plan to transform the Gaza Strip into a 'Riviera' during a session in the Knesset. The discussion took place amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis and deaths in Gaza, triggered by the war that began after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
The discussion, titled 'The Riviera in Gaza: From Vision to Reality,' was organized by hardline members of the Israeli far-right, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and activist Daniella Weiss. A plan to establish a permanent Jewish presence in the Gaza Strip was considered, including the construction of homes for 1.2 million Jews and the development of tourist complexes.
Eight Jewish settlements were dismantled from Gaza in 2005. Since then, there has been increasing demand for the resettlement of settlers, particularly after the Hamas attack on October 7. Israeli military operations have led to significant casualties in the Palestinian enclave. Of the 251 Hamas hostages, 27 are no longer alive, according to the Israeli army.
