Israel: Temporary Suspension of Army Radio Station Closure

Israel's Supreme Court has issued a temporary order suspending the government's decision to close the army radio station, Galei Tzahal, one of the oldest and most listened-to stations in the country.
The decision, publicized by Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit, aims to prevent "irreversible measures" before the court rules on the legality of the closure. Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara supports the suspension.
Galei Tzahal, founded in 1950, is known for its news programs. According to the latest data, it is the third most listened-to station in Israel with 17.7%.
The government had approved the station's closure by March 1, 2026, following a proposal by Defense Minister Israel Katz, who claimed the station broadcast "political and divisive content." Opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the decision.
