Iran to Trump: Send Ships to the Strait of Hormuz

A spokesperson for Iran's Revolutionary Guards has challenged Donald Trump to send US warships to the Strait of Hormuz to escort oil tankers. The challenge follows Trump's statement that US ships could assume this role if needed.

According to Iranian media, Ali Mohammad Naini, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, responded to Donald Trump's statements, openly provoking the United States to deploy naval forces to the Strait of Hormuz. "Iran welcomes the escort of oil tankers by American armed forces in the Strait of Hormuz. By the way, we are awaiting their presence," he stated.

Donald Trump had stated on Tuesday that US Navy warships could escort tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, if deemed necessary, due to growing concerns about the safety of navigation.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important energy arteries in the world. Under normal circumstances, approximately 20% of the world's seaborne oil and liquefied natural gas passes through it.

Naini also referred to the 1987 incident involving the American supertanker Bridgeton, warning of the dangers of an American naval presence in the region.
