Russia Revives Intervision as a Counter to Eurovision

Russia is reviving Intervision, a music competition created in the Soviet era, as a response to Eurovision. Artists from 23 countries will appear on the stage of the Live Arena near Moscow, including countries from the former Soviet Union, the BRICS nations, and Australian singer Vassy, who will represent the USA.
Russian state television promoted the event with a video in Times Square, New York. The first Intervision was organized in 1965 in Czechoslovakia and discontinued after the collapse of the USSR.
Russia was expelled from Eurovision in 2022 and is promoting Intervision as a tool for cultural influence. Sergei Lavrov sarcastically commented on Conchita Wurst's victory at Eurovision in 2014. Vladimir Putin presents Russia as a defender of traditional values.
At Intervision, artists will sing in their native language. Russian singer Shaman will perform the song "Straight to the Heart." Konstantin Ernst stated that Intervision will be broadcast in all participating countries, representing over 4 billion viewers. The winner will be selected by an international panel of judges.
