The German Foreign Office has issued a travel advisory urging caution to German citizens visiting Turkey, especially during the New Year holiday season, due to an increased risk of terrorist attacks.

According to the Foreign Office, non-essential travel to the border regions between Turkey and Iraq and Turkey and Syria (provinces of Sanliurfa, Mardin, Sirnak and Hakkari) is discouraged. It emphasizes that the terrorist threat is present in all regions of Turkey, with the period before New Year's Eve considered particularly vulnerable.

The Ministry advises avoiding large gatherings, squares, tourist attractions, and areas near government and military facilities.
