Germany: US Sanctions Do Not Target Rosneft's German Subsidiaries

The German Ministry of Economy stated that the US sanctions against Rosneft do not target its German subsidiaries but requested further clarification from Washington regarding fuel supplies.

The sanctions were imposed by Donald Trump in response to Vladimir Putin's refusal to end the war in Ukraine. They concern Rosneft and Lukoil.

The German ministry reported that it had received assurances from the US authorities that the sanctions would not target Rosneft's German subsidiaries, which have been under Berlin's supervision since 2022. Nevertheless, it requests further legal clarifications.

Rosneft has significant activities in Germany, which demonstrate the energy cooperation between the two countries before the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
