France and Canada Open Consulates in Greenland

France and Canada have opened consulates in Greenland, signaling a move of support for the island from NATO allies. Canadian officials, including Governor General Mary Simon and Foreign Minister Anita Anand, traveled to Nuuk for the inauguration.
Simultaneously, French officials also arrived in Greenland to inaugurate their own consulate. Until recently, only Iceland and the USA had consulates in Nuuk.
These moves underscore NATO's continued support for Greenland, following statements by Trump regarding a possible acquisition of the island. Michael Byers, a Canadian professor, commented that this move should have happened sooner, given the proximity between Iqaluit and Nuuk, and the close ties between the Inuit of Canada and Greenland.
