Israeli Foreign Minister Visits Somaliland After Recognition

Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa'ar, is visiting Hargeisa, marking the first official visit by an Israeli Foreign Minister to Somaliland after Israel's recognition of the region's independence.
Gideon Sa'ar will meet with the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi.
The recognition, which took place on December 26, 2025, sparked reactions from Somalia and Turkey. Ankara and Mogadishu expressed concerns about destabilization in the Horn of Africa and security in the Red Sea.
At a meeting of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, a Mossad representative stated that the recognition of Somaliland has security implications. Prime Minister Netanyahu had thanked the director of Mossad, David Barnea, for his contribution to the process.
Analysts emphasize the strategic importance of Somaliland due to its geographical location.
