Greek Vessel Involved with Turkish Fishing Boat near Agathonisi

A serious incident occurred off the coast of Agathonisi on Wednesday night, involving a Greek vessel and a Turkish fishing boat.

Two Turkish fishing vessels entered Greek territorial waters and were fishing, in the presence of two Turkish Coast Guard vessels. Three patrol boats rushed to the scene and issued warnings for immediate departure, without effect.

One Turkish fishing boat performed dangerous maneuvers, risking a collision with a Greek patrol boat. The Greek crew fired warning shots, according to the rules of engagement. Subsequently, the Turkish vessels withdrew from Greek territorial waters.
