Greece and Serbia Strengthen Energy Cooperation

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, met with the Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic, in Belgrade to discuss strengthening energy security and interconnectivity.

Both sides reiterated the strategic nature of Greek-Serbian cooperation in the energy sector, emphasizing Greece's role as an energy gateway for Southeastern and Central Europe through the Vertical Corridor.

Mr. Papastavrou stressed the importance of diversifying energy sources and referred to the interconnection of Serbia with Bulgaria and Bulgaria with Greece via the IGB, as well as the future interconnection of Serbia with North Macedonia and North Macedonia with Greece.

Ms. Djedovic stated that Serbia plans to construct two new natural gas interconnections with North Macedonia and Romania.

Srbijagas has secured 300 million cubic meters of natural gas at the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal for a period of 10 years.

Serbia has completed the necessary steps to connect to the EU electricity market.
