Pope Appeals for Aid to Sudan Amid Crisis

Pope Leo XIV has appealed for coordinated action to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which is plagued by civil war and a recent landslide.
He referred to the tragic situation in Darfur, where many civilians are trapped in El Fasher, facing famine and violence. The Pope called on those responsible and the international community to guarantee access to humanitarian corridors and to initiate a sincere dialogue to end the conflict.
Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since 2023, causing a severe humanitarian crisis. The Pope also mentioned the devastating landslide in Darfur, which claimed the lives of hundreds of people, as well as the spread of cholera.
Meanwhile, approximately 100 bodies have been recovered from the village of Tarasin, which was hit by the landslide. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities and humanitarian organizations are mobilizing to provide assistance.
