EU-US: New Trade Deal Includes 15% Tariffs

Governments and businesses in Europe have expressed mixed feelings about the new trade agreement with the US under Donald Trump. The agreement stipulates the imposition of 15% tariffs on most European products.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated via X that it is "a moment for relief, not celebration," as tariffs will increase in many sectors.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described Trump as a "tough negotiator," while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the agreement as it averted a trade war.
In contrast, French Prime Minister François Bayrou spoke of a "dark day" for Europe.
The European Union also committed to energy purchases worth $750 billion and additional investments of $600 billion in the US.
