US Forces Commander: No Invasion of Cuba Planned

The U.S. military is not planning an invasion of Cuba, according to General Francis Donovan, head of U.S. forces in Latin America. Donovan made these statements during a Senate hearing discussing President Donald Trump's increasing use of the U.S. military in Latin America.
However, the military is prepared to address any threat to the U.S. embassy, defend the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay, and assist in the event of mass migration from the island, according to the head of the Southern Command.
Donovan also emphasized the need for investment in Guantanamo Bay due to damage from recent storms. He also mentioned the arrest of then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. special forces in January and his transfer to New York.
Finally, President Donald Trump stated that he expects to take Cuba "in some form" and that he "can do whatever he wants" with the island.
