CNN: Trump Weighs Strikes Against Cartels in Venezuela

US President Donald Trump is considering military strikes against drug cartels on Venezuelan soil, according to CNN.

If carried out, these operations would represent a significant escalation in relations between Washington and Caracas. Earlier, US forces struck a speedboat from Venezuela in the Caribbean, claiming it was carrying drugs.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has called on the US to respect his country's national sovereignty, stressing that no difference justifies military conflict. Maduro denies Washington's accusations that he is the head of a cartel.

The Pentagon also denounced the overflight of Venezuelan fighter jets over a US destroyer in the Caribbean, calling it a 'provocative' act.
