Long-standing territorial disputes between Cambodia and Thailand are escalating, with at least 33 deaths reported following clashes at the border. Phnom Penh has called on Bangkok for an immediate ceasefire.

The conflict intensified with the use of fighter jets and heavy artillery, leading to an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, 13 civilians were killed and 71 injured on the Cambodian side, while the Thai military reported 20 deaths in Thailand.

New hostilities have erupted, with Cambodia accusing Thailand of firing artillery shells. More than 138,000 residents have evacuated their homes in Thailand and over 35,000 in Cambodia.

Cambodia's ambassador to the UN, Tsi Kev, called for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful resolution. Thailand has left open the possibility of negotiations, potentially with mediation from Malaysia.
