Trump: US-China Deal on Rare Earth Elements Ratified
Share on:

The White House announced on Thursday the ratification of an agreement between the US and China regarding trade exchanges, with emphasis on expediting the delivery of rare earth elements to the US.

Donald Trump stated that Washington had “signed” a trade agreement with China, without providing further details. A White House official clarified that the agreement had been reached in previous negotiations.

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnik referred to the negotiations in London, emphasizing that the framework agreement was “signed and sealed.”

In mid-June, the two countries agreed in London on a “general framework” for resolving their trade disputes, which had to be ratified by the presidents of the two countries. The negotiations followed those of May in Geneva.

Rare earth elements were a key point of the negotiations, with the US seeking to expedite the delivery of these strategically important metals. Beijing expected Washington to revise the export control regime for specific American products, mainly technological ones.
