US Ends Tax Exemption for Small Packages: Impacts on Brands
Share on:

The United States has ended the "de minimis" exemption for shipments valued under $800, a change impacting brands and consumers.

The decision, initially affecting products from China and Hong Kong in May and extended to all countries on July 30 by Donald Trump, eliminates the ability to import goods valued under $800 without duties and inspections.

Companies such as Tapestry and Lululemon, as well as other retailers with an online presence, will now be subject to duties and stricter controls for their shipments to the US. This elimination comes earlier than scheduled, as the exemption was set to expire in July 2027.
