Trump's Trade War: Tariffs on Copper, Temu, and Shein

Donald Trump is escalating trade actions, imposing a 50% tariff on copper worldwide and eliminating tariff exemptions for low-value imports from companies like Temu and Shein.

The U.S. President signed a 50% tariff on all copper imports, causing a drop in metal prices. Simultaneously, he ended the tariff exemption for imports valued under $800, a measure primarily affecting Temu and Shein.

The copper decision, effective Friday, had an immediate impact, with the U.S. copper price recording a significant drop. Shares of major producers, such as Freeport-McMoRan and Southern Copper, were also affected.

The elimination of the tariff exemption for imports under $800, to be implemented from August 29, aims to address tariff avoidance and the import of dangerous substances, according to the White House.

These changes signal an aggressive trade strategy by the Trump administration.
