Bayer Faces Thousands of Glyphosate Lawsuits in the US

Bayer is at a critical crossroads, facing thousands of lawsuits in the US regarding the potential carcinogenic effects of the herbicide glyphosate. The German pharmaceutical giant awaits a decision from the US Supreme Court, which could determine the company's future.
The lawsuits began after Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto in 2018, with claims reaching 170,000, of which 65,000 remain pending. The critical legal issue concerns whether Bayer should have warned users about the potential cancer risks.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US has concluded that glyphosate is not carcinogenic, while the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified it as 'probably carcinogenic to humans,' creating controversy.
Bayer has already warned of losses of €3.6 billion in 2025 due to legal expenses. It proposed a $7.25 billion settlement to resolve pending cases, but the process is not yet complete.
Bayer CEO Bill Anderson argues that glyphosate is important for modern agriculture. The Supreme Court's decision is expected to be decisive for the company's future.
