A contract has been signed to upgrade seven Canadair CL-415 aircraft, with the first upgraded aircraft expected in 2027. The contract was signed in the presence of the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis.

The upgrade concerns the electronic and navigation systems of the aircraft, with the installation of modern avionics equipment. The aim is to address the obsolescence of existing systems and ensure compliance with the standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Mr. Kefalogiannis stressed that the Canadair aircraft are an important tool for dealing with forest fires. He also mentioned that Greece will begin receiving new 515-type aircraft from 2028.

The Canadian Ambassador to Greece, Sonia Thissen, stated that the signing is an investment in the resilience and safety of future generations.

The project budget amounts to 43 million euros and funding was secured through the EIB loan, under the AEGIS program.
