Brussels: Tear Gas Used Against Protesting Farmers

Tensions rose in Brussels as thousands of farmers from across Europe protested against high production costs and changes to the Common Agricultural Policy. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters outside the European Parliament.
Farmers are protesting the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, fearing competition from cheaper products. They also oppose proposed cuts to agricultural subsidies.
The Walloon Farmers Federation (FWA) expressed its opposition to the 20% reduction in subsidies and the promotion of the agreement with Mercosur.
The EU-Mercosur agreement would create the world's largest free trade zone.
