Brazil: At Least 17 Dead in Bus Accident

At least 17 people have died in a traffic accident in Brazil after a bus overturned on a highway in the state of Pernambuco. The accident occurred on the BR-423 highway, near the city of Santa Cruz.

According to authorities, the bus was carrying at least 40 passengers, although a smaller number had been declared. The bus was returning from Bahia when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to hit rocks and overturn.

The Pernambuco Military Fire Brigade completed its operation at the scene of the accident. The injured were transported to local hospitals. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) is investigating the causes of the accident. The bus driver underwent a breathalyzer test with a negative result.

Authorities have confirmed 17 deaths, while the exact number of injured has not yet been confirmed.
