Belgian Concern: Drones Near Military Base - Espionage Suspicions

Belgian Defense Minister, Theo Francken, has expressed concerns about drones flying near a military base in Kleine Brogel. According to Francken, the drones were spotted during the night hours of Saturday and Sunday and appear to be collecting information about the F-16s and ammunition hosted at the base.

Francken told RTBF that the drones initially tested the radio frequencies of the security services and then tried to destabilize the area. Although he avoided directly accusing Russia, he hinted that there were no other obvious suspects.

This incident is the latest in a series of similar incidents in Europe, with Russian drones being intercepted over Poland and Romania, while drones of unknown origin disrupted air traffic at airports in Denmark, Norway and Germany.

The Minister of Defense is expected to present a €50 million plan to develop a national anti-drone system, which will include detection systems, jamming devices and anti-drone weapons.
